Flat Ground, Slow Drainage

Hydroseeding in Fremont happens on some of the flattest ground in our area. Fremont lies in the river plain between the Platte and Elkhorn rivers, at about 1,203 feet, roughly 35 miles northwest of Omaha. Flat ground does not wash away like a hillside does. Its problem is the opposite: water sits, and seed sitting in water fails.

Grade is everything here

On a river-plain lot a small mistake in grading is easy to miss until the first big rain leaves a puddle across half the new lawn. Before we seed, we use a level or laser to confirm the ground drops off the foundation and heads for the street or a drain, then fine grade to correct low spots. A few inches of fall over a long distance is often all it takes. Where a lot is truly flat, a shallow swale or drain line gives water a way out, and our crew can dig and trench for that.

Where the Platte turns

Near Fremont the Platte bends sharply and flows south toward Waterloo before turning east around Omaha. The river here is broad, shallow and sandy, a braided stream. Sandier soil near the river drains faster but dries quickly and holds fewer nutrients, so lots on that side benefit from a starter fertilizer in the hydroseed mix and more frequent, lighter watering at first.

Parks and public turf

Fremont has 21 city-owned parks covering more than 400 acres, plus the Fremont Golf Club, finished in 1930. Large public turf, athletic fields and commercial frontage are where hydroseeding is most cost-effective. A tank of seed, mulch and fertilizer covers a large area evenly in one pass, and a tackifier keeps it in place in open, windy spots.

Rail and road town

The Union Pacific reached Fremont in December 1865, and the town grew as a rail hub. Industrial and commercial sites along the rail and highway corridors often need sediment control during construction: silt fence on the perimeter, inlet protection on catch basins and fast permanent seeding once grading is finished.

Fremont Questions

My Fremont lot is dead flat. Can it still drain?

Usually yes. A small, consistent fall shaped during fine grading, or a shallow swale, is enough on most lots.

Do sandy lots near the Platte need different seeding?

They drain fast and dry out fast, so we add starter fertilizer and recommend shorter, more frequent watering early on.

Do you handle commercial seeding and silt fence?

Yes. While the house goes up we put in perimeter silt fence and protect the inlets, then hydroseed once final grade is set.

Is Fremont too far from Omaha for you?

No. Fremont is part of our regular service area.
